Hourly Rate: Sliding Scale based on Education Level ($18-$23 Per Hour)
Program: Watershed & Land Management - Division of Land Resource Protection
Program Description: At the DEP's Watershed and Land Management Program (WLM), our mission is to unite land and water stewardship through a collaborative, watershed-focused approach. Since our inception on June 1, 2020, we have been dedicated to preserving and enhancing New Jersey's water quality and natural resources while safeguarding communities from environmental threats.
Project Description: This internship will concentrate on GIS projects within WLM. Interns will engage in tasks such as digitizing historical riparian grant data, wetland mitigation sites, and nature-based solutions projects. Responsibilities also include quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) of XY coordinate locations and updating raster image mosaic datasets using scanned maps of historical grants. Additionally, there will be opportunities for fieldwork, allowing interns to conduct site visits.
Specific to the Position: Candidates should have some knowledge of ESRI products such as ArcPro and ArcGIS Online, with completion of GIS courses being a plus. Familiarity with data management software, such as Microsoft Excel, is also preferred. Additionally, an understanding of CAD workflows and processes would be helpful, although it is not required. Candidates should be detail oriented and organized.
Preferred Area of Study: Majors relating to environmental science, environmental policy, physical science, and biological science.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011, have one year from the date of employment to establish and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
