Job Description

Children’s Aid offers a continuum of short-term, evidence-based interventions of varying levels of intensity in four boroughs. The prevention services continuum consists of Family Support, Therapeutic Interventions and Family Assessment Program (FAP) services, as well as the Safe Way Forward Program for families impacted by Domestic Violence. Our FAP Programs provide support to families that are struggling with issues commonly faced by teens including substance use, mental health symptoms, delinquent/criminal behaviors, defiant behaviors, running away, violating curfew and educational related issues such as truancy and failing grades.

Position Summary

The Multi-systemic Treatment-Substance Abuse (MST-SA) Supervisor in our Family Assessment Program (FAP) will serve the combined roles of an Administrative Supervisor and MST-SA model supervisor. The MST-SA Supervisor also functions in the role of “site lead” of the MST-SA Program. Supervisors are required to ensure that interactions involving staff and clients are trauma-informed and reflect the agency’s DEI and Anti-racism framework.

Essential Duties

General responsibilities of an MST-SA Supervisor in the role of “Administrative Supervisor” will be to:

  • Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provide accountability, child welfare and administrative supervision for up to four (4) MST Therapists.
  • Provide Accountability Oversight to ensure compliance with ACS 2021 Prevention Services Standards and Indicators, including:
    • Collaborate with the CQI team to improve program practice and outcomes by reviewing and providing feedback on the CQI Utilization Dashboard and Monthly Performance Reports.
    • Monitor all ACS/OCFS database systems, such as PROMIS, and CONNX, to ensure compliance with key performance indicators.
    • Ensure timely completion, review and approval of FASPs, Plan Amendments and Progress notes.
    • Ensure that length of service, home assessments and assessment of children and adults in or frequenting the home are completed.
    • Responsible for completing case record review tracking on a monthly basis to ensure completeness of documentation in the case files consistent with the ACS Supervisory Standard.
    • Responsible for ensuring that case practice and corresponding documentation in progress notes and FASPs are aligned with the PAMS expectations and best casework practice.
    • Ensure that team engages in outreach activities in the community in order to attain required 20% utilization from self-referrals as required by contract.
  • Provide Child Welfare Supervision to therapists consistent with the Staff Supervision Standard as delineated in the ACS 2021 Prevention Services Standards and Indicators. Elements of this include:
    • Provide weekly supervision to all therapists inclusive of coaching, support, and guidance to conduct accurate, comprehensive assessments and professional development.
    • Document case discussions and case record reviews monthly in Supervisory Reviews for each case as well as complete Profession Development Log for each supervisee.
    • Collaborate with all departments of ACS including FAP, DCP, DPS, OPTA, OPPP, etc., as needed to ensure the safety needs of children are being addressed.
    • Ensure compliance with all other ACS Prevention Service Standards, policies and procedures related to CSEC, Safe Sleep, Cross Over Youth Practice Model, Intimate Partner Violence assessments, face to face contacts, etc.
  • Provide Administrative Oversight (with support from the Admin Assistant) to ensure therapists comply with all agency policies and procedures, including:
    • Willingness and ability to comply with the agency’s Telecommuting/Remote Work Policy and ensure staff does the same.
    • Ensure that staff comply with agency conditions of employment related to safety protocols, attendance, hours of work/UKG Pro and use of sick, personal, vacation time, etc.
    • Ensure that all staff meet performance standards and comply with agency standards of behavior and code of conduct.
    • Complete performance evaluations and address performance issues in a timely and progressive manner.
  • Completes all other tasks related to the role of administrative supervisor.

General responsibilities in the role of an MST-SA Model Supervisor include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct weekly group supervision for the MST-SA team to assure adherence to MST principles and the MST Analytic Process.
  • Conduct individual supervision weekly to target clinician competency needs and to remove individual barriers to effective implementation of MST-SA treatment.
  • Provide direct clinical training to assure clinicians’ competency in all clinical areas relating to the implementation of MST-SA interventions.
  • Ensure that each clinician has a Clinician Development Plan that is reviewed monthly and revised quarterly.
  • Work with the Family Services Research Center at the Medical University of South Carolina to ensure that all data for the TAM-CAM and required research measures are collected.
  • Collaborate with MST-SA expert to provide feedback, resources, and training to all team members.
  • Support weekly MST-SA expert through ensuring that clinicians’ paperwork is submitted to the expert in a timely manner, participating in all consultations, and collaborating with the consultant on feedback to team members.
  • Complete all other tasks as assigned related to the role of MST-SA model supervisor, including ensuring that the supervisor meets all requirements of the MST-SA model expert necessary to practice as a MST-SA model supervisor.
  • Ability to be flexible including being available on weekends and evenings as required or travel to another borough when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure in Social Work or an equivalent license preferred.
  • Two years post Master’s clinical experience working with adolescents and families in a child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice setting.

  • At least two years’ experience practicing as a therapist is preferred but not required.
  • Training and experience with the MST-SA philosophy and model preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as contribute to a team.
  • Strong clinical and administrative skills and very good interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Computer literate, including familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Power Point.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
