This position will support procurement and supply chain activities for the utility services and industrial engineering teams within the organization. The position requires tracking of deliverables, maintaining and developing new vendor/supplier relationships, competitive cost analysis, contractual requirement monitoring, and evaluating vendor performance.

The ideal candidate will be a high performing, critically thinking, analytical, and experienced self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Procurement Specialist for a REMOTE WORK position within our operations team.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned vendors and suppliers, cultivating strong and lasting relationships. Partnering with other Orbital operations team members to support vendor relationship management.
  • Lead and manage the procurement process for goods and services, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of products and materials required for operations.
  • In coordination with legal team, lead and support negotiation of contracts and agreements with suppliers, ensuring favorable terms and conditions that align with company goals
  • Monitor and evaluate vendor performance, ensuring products and services meet quality standards, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their procurement needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchasing activities, vendor contracts, and procurement documentation.
  • Schedule, monitor, and assist in material ordering for assigned operational projects and programs.
  • Ensure project material orders are current with quantities and purchase order information based on monitoring multiple client applications.
  • Lead or assist in setting project deliverable due dates for vendors, verifying we receive all vendor data in a timely manner to meet project dates.
  • Conduct market research to identify new suppliers and assess current market conditions, trends, and risks.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and industry standards throughout the procurement process.
  • Lead or support operational teams in response to client specific RFI/RFP activities, compiling relevant questions and responses for submission on or before expected due dates.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including operations, project management, and leadership members, to deliver customized solutions and drive successful outcomes.
  • Maintain superior customer service for all internal and external clients and resolve issues as they arise; ensure timely responses.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in account management, client services, contract management, engineering consulting, with a proven track record of procurement success.
  • Prior experience working with or for investor-owned utilities, heavy industrial sector businesses, or consulting companies with existing vendor relationships.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with clients at all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize multiple assignments, complex assignments, and competing priorities to produce accurate results as committed to.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-functional work teams in the development and implementation of efficiencies.
  • The successful candidate must have exceptional analytical and decision-making skills, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in procurement web applications such as PowerAdvocate, Ariba, Coupa, and other such applications in support of RFI/RFP activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement process, vendor management, and cost optimization strategies.
  • Experience with contract negotiations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications.
  • This position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional procurement certification.
  • Prior experience within the Electric and/or Natural Gas Utility industry
