Job Description and Duties

Under general supervision of the Nursing Consultant Program Review/Chief of Quality Improvement, the Nurse Consultant I for Hospital Consultation and Policy Development and/or Quality Improvement is responsible for conducting hospital visits to the five state hospitals at the determined cadence and may provide onsite assistance with the Coleman Special Master’s Monitoring Tours, surveys, and consults as requested. Additionally, the Nurse Consultant I will be responsible for overseeing the development, renewal, monitoring, and evaluation of all Policy Directives assigned to the Quality Improvement/Standards Compliance Unit and overseeing all California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Quality Improvement initiatives. Incumbent will also be responsible for patient safety activities associated with the Patient Safety Evaluation System, Incident Management, and Joint Commission monitoring and evaluation.

  • Other - A valid license to practice as a professional registered nurse in the State of California.
  • Other - Copy of Bachelor’s or higher degree in nursing from a school of nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) or its equivalent for foreign graduates (For applicants who received a baccalaureate degree in a health-related field prior to 1990, the California State Public Health Nurse Certificate may be substituted for the baccalaureate in nursing (BSN), thereafter the baccalaureate or higher degree must be in nursing from a school of nursing accredited by the NLN or its equivalent for foreign graduates.)
  • Other - Copy of Master’s degree in a health-related field such as: nursing, public health, health care services, health care administration, or hospital administration. All degrees must be from an institution approved by the Council for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education under the provisions of California Education Code Chapter 3, Part 59, Division 10
