Description - PLEASE NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR SUBSTITUTE/LIMITED TERM CUSTODIAL POSITIONS.-THIS POSITION DOES NOT INCLUDE BENEFITS, AS IT IS A SUBSTITUTE/LIMITED TERM POSITION*

- Those candidates who are passed through will be invited to begin processing to be placed on a list for the purpose of limited term (substitute) processing.
- Placement on the limited term (substitute) list does not qualify candidates for consideration for contracted positions.
Basic Function Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of cleaning and custodial maintenance duties in assigned buildings and facilities.
Examples of Duties Representative Duties Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeterias, gymnasiums, offices and related facilities; dust and polish furniture and woodwork; empty waste receptacles; spot mop spills; remove gum, debris and graffiti as needed.
E Sweep, scrub, mop, strip, wax and polish floors; vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops and other work areas; spot clean and shampoo carpets.
E Pick up paper and other debris from school grounds, walkways and areas adjacent to school facilities; remove and dispose of banners and posters; sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to school building.
E Clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restroom facilities including sinks, toilets and urinals; fill dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items; clean mirrors, tile and windows; unclog drains and toilets.
E Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines, steam cleaners and other equipment as assigned.
E Move and arrange furniture and equipment; prepare classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings; set-up and assemble chairs, tables and other furniture and equipment for special events and activities; clean up furniture, equipment and debris following these events.
E Perform various custodial activities including replacing light bulbs and tubes, cleaning chalkboards and erasers and emptying pencil sharpeners.
E Raise and lower flags; unlock and lock doors and gates, assuring facilities are properly secured; set alarms as appropriate.
E Participate in thorough cleaning and restoration of a school plant during school vacation periods.
E Maintain routine records related to assigned activities.
E Communicate with District personnel to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
Perform minor maintenance and repair activities.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.

Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Operation of assigned custodial equipment.
Ability To Learn the schedules, procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Maintain buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment.
Work cooperatively with others.
Operate assigned custodial equipment.
Observe health and safety regulations.
Learn basic record-keeping techniques.
Environment WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoor and outdoor work environment.
Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.
Physical Demands Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of custodial equipment.
Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
Seeing to perform custodial duties.
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects (50 lbs) as assigned by position.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Climbing ladders and working from heights.
Hazards Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals.
Working on ladders.
Potential for contact with body fluids.
Working around and with machinery with moving parts.
In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 (Minimum Salary) of the official salary range designated for the position. Any variances in initial placement are addressed in, and shall be carried out in agreement with, this rule.
